Nairobi – Masai Mara Game Reserve (229km: 5hrs)
The 1 day Masai mara tour includes park fees, transport in safari minivan, services of a guide, lunch and water. A 5 hr game drive is also inclusive in this 1-day tour to Masai mara national reserve. Your Masai mara day trip departs from Nairobi before dawn and arrives at the park at 0930hrs.
This allows you enough time to do atleast 5-6hrs game drive in Masai mara in a day. Due to the huge density of wildlife in the mara, this is enough time to see a lot of wildlife. You can also opt to go on a 1 day flight safari to Masai mara from Nairobi.
Driving to Masai Mara for a 1 Day Safari
Your safari departs from Nairobi at 0500hrs with a pick up from your hotel by your driver. You will drive northwest through the Great Rift Valley eastern escarpment. Drive on B7 road from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu town and turn left onto B3 towards Narok town for a 126km taking 3hrs.
Have a short stop in Narok for breakfast and then continue towards Masai mara from the AM/TM junction. Continue on the C12 road to Sekenani gate, some 103km or 2hrs away. The drive from Nairobi to Narok town is on very good paved roads. The road from Narok to Sekenani gate good enough but has many potholes at some sections.
The park roads are unpaved and very rough at some sections but they are generally motorable. During the rains, some feeder roads inside the park can be impassable. Care must be taken not to venture into smaller roads especially during rainy seasons when on a day trip. Risk of getting stuck is real and may mess your return trip to Nairobi and the time spent on the actual game drive.
Animals to See In a Masai Mara 1 Day Game Drive
Masai mara game reserve is the most popular national park in Kenya. This park has more than 3 million animals with the highest population of grazers. The park is only 1510 sq km in size and this means the density of wildlife is very high. This ensures that you get to see a lot of animals in a short day trip here.
Your 1 day Masai mara safari will bring you face to face with a lot of animals including lions, hippos, buffalos, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, gazelles, elands, Topis, wildebeests, baboons, Zebras and more. The Masai People in a Masai Mara 1 Day Trip
If you have time, you can spare a 30-minute visit to a Masai village, which are located right outside the park gate. The Masai people stay in these villages and are very ready to show you their ways of life and possibly sell you a souvenir.
The Masai village experience will show you how the community lives with their animals, their households, how they do traditional archery, spear throwing and making fire out of 2 dry sticks and donkey or elephant dung.
End of 1 Day Masai Mara Tour
You will have a picnic lunch on the plains of Masai mara as you watch the wildebeests migration or the plains game. Later go for a 1-hour game drive white you exit the park for the drive back to Nairobi. Your 1 day Masai mara game drive ends when you exit the park at 1500hrs for the drive to Nairobi.
Drop off in your hotel in Nairobi at 1930hrs and end of your 1 day Masai mara trip.
